Spreading the word

Hello and welcome to the Canvassing Team Page. Our job as a team is to spread the message. As a collective effort, we are trying to share our project with the physical communities. Also, we will be raising multiple fundraisers and will be looking for physical donations. All money that is made will go strictly towards our project. We are hoping to spread the word in physical communites and hopefully raise enough money which will go to Lake County School Districts with outstanding lunch debt (bad debt).

Week One Update

Our team has multiple ideas on how we are going to get donations for this project. First, our group will get with Purdue University Northwest to be able to set up a stand to inform students about our project, promoting donations.  Our plan is to set up a booth to sell multiple goodies to get some funds for the debt collection project.
Each weekend we are planning to go to a different downtown area to speak to local businesses to receive donations. Some of the town we are going to are Crown Point, Highland, Griffith, Schererville, and other surrounding towns.
We are also planning to create a flyer that will contain the information about our debt collection project. The flyer will be posted throughout school, pass out to businesses and even planning to drive around neighborhoods to post and give out the flyers.
Lastly, Josh will talk to his father which is a politician, to create a letter to send to other local politicians to receive donations for the project.

Week Two Update

The canvassing group created an excel spreadsheet that will include all the assets from the physical donations and online donations. The spreadsheet will also include all expenses that will be accrued. The group will be creating a secondary checking account from Fifth Third Bank to keep track of all the financial transactions. The group will print out a detailed financial statement weekly to show all the financial transaction within the account.
The group has contacted the school about the table and flyers, at the moment were waiting for an approval for the table and to post flyers around the school. The approval we are waiting for will come from the dean.
We have a list that the group has budgeted how much the food table will cost and track all the expenses that will be accrued during the sales. Cookies will cost $6 for 24-30 cookies with pricing of 2 for 3 which will help the group accrue 10 dollar profit per batch. We were also thinking about selling Krispy Crème donuts which would be popular in the mornings. They will cost $8 dollars a dozen. Each student in the class has donated 20 dollars to get our funds going. The 20 dollars will cover costs to start up our fundraisers and also change the domain name of our class website. After the first sale, we should be able to self-sustain the future sales.
The group will also go to Downtown Highland and Griffith this weekend to talk to local business for donations for the project.

Week Three Update

The group established a footing to fundraise on campus and clarified the use of flyers on campus. Acquired list of local politicians to solicit donations and working on contacting Pete Visclosky. We have acquired connection with Sigma Lambda Beta Upsilon Chapter. Beginning to coordinate a second fundraiser (Post Donut/Bake sale).
Began to figure out the best option for where to get flyers and brainstormed the starting amount that we should produce. We have discussed exactly what should be on the flyer such as social media, title, information on schools and the formation of the basic flyer.
The group submitted an Application to Chipotle so we can set a fundraiser on May 4 . Stevie, Kenneth and Shadi went to Krispy Kreme and got a folder that contained information about the cost of the donuts and went to Elegance, langels and the funeral home in Highland to ask for donations. The letter to the politicians have been started and being drafted.
Informed my organizations via email about our cause which is around 200 people to either donate through check or GoFundMe. Alex was selected to ref a tournament in Michigan City this weekend, and I will influence others at the tournament to donate. As a group, we discussed a different and effective way to fundraise. A basketball tournament or games with a grand prize granted to the winning team. We could charge to participate and sell goods at the event.
